Day 111- October 25th, 2018

Hello Readers-

I wish you well and, as always, hope that you are well in all possible ways.  I have been talking with other members of the “Be Well In Nunda” group and, using some of their suggestions, will be making a change in the format of this blog: “Get Healthy With The Mayor.”  But not today!

We’ve seen how important Spiritual Wellness is to our overall wellness.  And I’ve told you what an important role music can play in our Spiritual Wellness.  Today I would like to invite you to participate  in a Musical and Spiritual Tradition in the Nunda/Dalton/Keshequa area.  Every December, for more than fifty years, the Nunda Area Council of Churches has sponsored a Community Christmas Candlelight Worship Service.   This year’s service will be held at Trinity Church of Nunda on Sunday, the Ninth of December at 7 PM.  The Community Choir,  the Nunda Area Children’s Choir, Members of Local Government and Organizations, Pastors of Local Churches and The Music Impromptu String Quartet will be leading us once again in  “A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols.”

If you would like to join us in this celebration, there are two ways to do so:

If you arrive at Trinity Church at 6:30 PM on December 9th, you will begin the celebration by quietly enjoying the tranquil and joyous music of Christmas as offered by The Music Impromptu String Quartet.  This will be followed by The Festival, and, as a member of the congregation, you will join us in singing many beloved Christmas carols such as “Once in Royal David’s City”, “O Little  Town of Bethlehem”, and “We Three Kings of Orient Are”.  You will also participate in a candle-lighting ceremony during which all in attendance have, for the last fifty years and more, sung in unison “Silent Night” while sharing the flame of the candles, and symbolically the Good News, with neighbors.  This is followed by the recessional carol “Hark the Herald”  and a Christmas Postlude by The Music Impromptu Quartet.

If you would like to sing with the Community Choir, that would be wonderful.  We have a great time preparing anthems for the Festival. Rehearsals are every Monday evening at 7 PM at Trinity Church.  We will begin rehearsals with a “Sing-Through” this Monday, October 29th at 7 PM at Trinity Church. All singers are welcome to join us.  If a child wishes to join the Nunda Area Children’s Choir, more information is available by calling (585) 468-2675. Please leave a voice-mail if we are unavailable.

Below are videos of the music that the Community Choir will be singing this year at the Festival.  I hope you enjoy these and that you will be able to join us either as a member of the congregation or as a member of the Community Choir:

“Remember, O Thou Man”        Bob Chilcott

“In the Bleak Midwinter” arr. Mark Shepperd

“Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming” arr. Howard Helvey

“The Wexford Carol”       arr.   Howard Helvey

“E’en So, Lord Jesus, Quickly Come”       Paul and Ruth Manz

Thanks for reading and for joining in the quest for wellness.

See you tomorrow!
